Braves' Player Recap: Lyle Overbay

Today's Braves' recap will be over first baseman Lyle Overbay.
Overbay started his major league career back in 2001 with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Since then he has also played for the Milwaukee Brewers, Toronto Blue Jays, Pittsburgh Pirates and then back to the Diamondbacks. The Braves picked him up this past summer after the D-Backs released him.
Overbay was signed to primarily be a pinch hitter and come off the bench for the Braves down the stretch. That's exactly what he did, but he didn't do anything to help the Braves out. In the twenty plate appearances he had for the Braves, he managed two hits and a walk, he also struck out eight times. Not exactly what the Braves envisioned when they signed him to be a productive pinch hitter. He finished the season batting .259 with two home runs and ten RBI's combined with the D-Backs and Braves.
Overbay will not be back next season with Atlanta, and he will have to look for a new home this winter. If anybody takes a chance on him, it will most likely be a minor league deal with an invite to spring training.
