Braves' Player Recap: Peter Moylan

Today's Braves' recap will be over reliever Peter Moylan.
Moylan pitched for Australia in the World Baseball Classic back in 2006 and that's were the Atlanta Braves discovered him after some impressive appearances. He ended up signing with the Braves and has been with them since '06. He has had three spectacular seasons with Atlanta, but he has also had three injury riddled years, including the past two seasons.
Moylan only appeared in eight games in 2012. He spent most of the season rehabbing in the minor leagues. When he made it to Atlanta in September, he only had one bad game. That game was on September 18th against the Miami Marlins, he gave up a home run, his only earned run allowed during his September stint.
Moylan was sharp in his other seven appearances. He got out of a few jams in some games and held the lead in others. He even picked up a save on September 9th against the New York Mets, pitching one inning and striking out a batter. He finished the year with a 1-0 record, a 1.80 ERA and two strikeouts.
With the way Moylan pitched, he might have earned another shot with the Braves. They might only be willing to offer him a minor league deal with an invite to spring training, but he could win a spot in the bullpen if he is fully healthy. He would have tough competition though with most of the bullpen set and with Cory Gearrin emerging as a younger option. Moylan might have to find a better opportunity somewhere else.

Peter Moylan is one of the longest tenured Braves, and a fan favorite in Atlanta, after signing with them before the 2006 season.
