Braves Reacquire Jordan Schafer

The Atlanta Braves announced on Thursday that they claimed outfielder Jordan Schafer off waivers from the Houston Astros. After spending a year and a half in Houston, Schafer returns to the team that dealt him for Michael Bourn in July 2011.
Schafer is mostly remembered by Atlanta fans for hitting a home run in his first major league at-bat in 2009. He was Atlanta's starting center fielder that year, but injuries ruined that season, and a drug problem ruined his 2010 campaign. He made it back to Atlanta in 2011 and showed signs of being healthy again, but then the Braves traded him. Last year in Houston, Schafer batted only .211 and had four home runs and 23 RBI's. He also had 27 stolen bases.
Schafer told the Associated Press that he was very excited to be returning to Atlanta.  The Braves are happy to have him back too. He hopes to have a bounce back year and help the Braves reach the playoffs again in 2013. He will most likely be a back-up outfielder next year for the Braves, but if they don't re-sign Bourn or get a replacement for him, look for Schafer to have an opportunity to be the center fielder next year in Atlanta.

Jordan Schafer (1) helped the Braves beat the Cincinnati Reds in this game back in May 2011. He hopes to help the Braves once again after being signed on Thursday.
