Hawks Pound Kings

The Atlanta Hawks beat the Sacramento Kings on Friday night, 112-96. It was Atlanta's biggest win of the year and also helped them finish 2-2 on their road trip out west.
The Kings fell behind by fourteen early in the game, but put together a run in the second quarter and tied the game. Eventually they trailed by only two at the half. Aaron Brooks led that run, hitting three 3-pointers to help the Kings get back into the game. Then, Sacramento only scored fourteen points in the third quarter and could never recover.
Jason Thompson had nineteen points to lead the Kings, he also pulled down ten rebounds. Marcus Thornton scored seventeen points, Tyreke Evans had fourteen and Brooks had thirteen. DeMarcus Cousins pulled down a game-high sixteen rebounds. The loss puts the Kings at 2-7 on the season.
The Hawks' defense fell apart in the second quarter, when they let the Kings get back into the game. Players would stand and watch as Kings' players would drive the lane and score easy buckets, or take wide-open three pointers. Coach Larry Drew must have given them a good talk at the half, as the Hawks' defense was superb in the third quarter and they took a lead they wouldn't squander.
Kyle Korver scored 22 points for the Hawks, including going five for five from downtown. It was easily his best game so far as a Hawk. Lou Williams added 21 points and Al Horford had 20 points and led the Hawks with ten rebounds. Josh Smith had nineteen points and Jeff Teague chipped in fifteen to give the Hawks five players with double-figures.
The Hawks evened their record at 4-4 as they return home for three games this next week. On Monday they will host the Orlando Magic. The Magic are 4-5 on the season and will play against the Toronto Raptors on Sunday before flying to Atlanta to play the Hawks. The game will be at 7:30 p.m.
