The Atlanta Braves made some moves today. The moves are considered routine.
They avoided arbitration with Jason Heyward, Jonny Venters, Kris Medlen, Eric O'Flaherty and Cristhian Martinez. They all received one-year deals, with pay raises. The biggest raises went to Heyward, Medlen and O'Flaherty. The team failed to reach a deal with Martin Prado, they were $400,000 apart. He will be the first player to go to arbitration with the Braves since John Rocker.
In other minor news, the Braves announced their non-roster invitees for spring training and among them was infielder Blake DeWitt. He can play second base, third base, first base and if needed, left field. He has spent the past two and a half seasons with the Chicago Cubs. He started his career in 2008 with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He is a career .257 hitter with 21 home runs and 135 RBI's in parts of five major league seasons. He has a good chance to make the team with a strong showing during spring training as a reserve off the bench.
