The Celtics staggered around in the first half, including being outscored 31-18 by the Hawks in the first quarter and being down by fifteen at the half. Paul Pierce led the Celtics with 26 points, he scored seventeen of those points in the Celtics' big third quarter. Rajon Rondo had a triple-double for Boston, scoring fourteen points, pulling down eleven rebounds and dishing out ten assists. Kevin Garnett also chipped in with fourteen points and Brandon Bass had ten. The Celtics are now 16-17 on the year and have a two-game winning streak.
The Hawks had a fantastic first half. Lou Williams scored 21 points in the first half alone and had the Hawks up big at halftime. Then they fell apart in the third quarter, hitting just two of their fourteen shots. Josh Smith did the worst in the second half, hitting just two of his twelve shots. Lately, the Hawks seem to blow leads or allow a team to have a big quarter, if that keeps up, they won't be around the top of the league much longer.
Williams ended up leading the Hawks with 28 points, but scored only seven in the second half. Smith had a double-double with twelve points and ten rebounds, but shot only four of eighteen from the field overall. Jeff Teague had seventeen points, he was the only other Hawk in double figures. Devin Harris and Anthony Morrow missed another game, it has not been determined when they will be able to return now.
The Hawks are now 20-12 on the year but have lost two games in a row. They will travel to Minnesota to take on the Timberwolves on Tuesday. They lost their last game and are 15-15 on the year. The game will be at 8 p.m.
