The Braves totaled thirteen hits while scoring five runs in the game. Jason Heyward, Reed Johnson and Joey Terdoslavich all had two hits for Atlanta, Heyward also hit his third home run of the spring. Justin and B.J. Upton, Juan Francisco, Tyler Pastornicky, Christian Bethancourt, Jordan Parraz and Todd Cunningham all recorded hits too. B.J. hit a two-run double in the fifth inning and Johnson and Cunningham added RBI singles for the Braves. Dan Uggla had a rough day, he struck out all four times he batted, furthering the slump he is in to start the spring.
Julio Teheran did have a decent outing. He gave up a solo home run to Washington's Bryce Harper in the first inning, but he settled down and pitched three innings, allowing no other hits, while striking out five batters. Dusty Hughes pitched a perfect inning and struck out two. David Carpenter also pitched a perfect inning of relief. Prospect Cory Rasmus had a rough day, he pitched only a third of an inning and gave up five runs on four hits and two walks. He fell to 0-1 on the spring.
The Braves are now 3-5 in spring play. They will take the field again tomorrow at 1:05 p.m. and take on the Houston Astros. Kris Medlen should make his second start of spring training.
Dan Uggla has had a rough start to his season so far as he is slumping horribly in the very beginning of spring training.
