The Atlanta Braves fell behind in the earlier innings and came back to take a late lead. That didn't hold up though as Philadelphia Phillies prospect Darin Ruf hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth to give the Phillies a 7-6 victory.
The Braves had twelve hits in the loss. Evan Gattis had a big day. He had three hits, including two home runs, he now had four home runs on the spring. He also drove in three runs. Jose Constanza also had three hits for the Braves. Chris Johnson added two hits and drove in a run. B.J. Upton had a hit, a solo shot, for his second home run of the spring. The other three Braves to record a hit were Freddie Freeman, Dan Uggla and Blake DeWitt.
Paul Maholm did struggle a little bit, but overall he was effective. He pitched six innings and gave up four unearned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. The runs scored because of two errors, one by Chris Johnson and the other one by Uggla.
The Braves are now 16-12 on the spring. They will split up tomorrow and play two games. Half of the team will play against the Toronto Blue Jays and the other half will play against the Houston Astros. Both games are at 1:05 p.m. Sean Gilmartin will start one game, while Julio Teheran will start in the other.
