The Braves' offense had nine hits while scoring their two runs. Juan Francisco had the biggest hit for Atlanta, a solo home run in the seventh inning, it was his second of the spring. Joe Leonard also had an RBI single for the Braves. Blake DeWitt had a double, while Jordan Schafer, Justin Upton, B.J. Upton, Dan Uggla and Ernesto Mejia all added singles in the loss.
Julio Teheran made the start for the Braves. He pitched four effective innings and gave up only a run on three hits and struck out five. He did suffer the loss though, he is 0-1 in spring play. Jonny Venters and Luis Avilan both pitched a scoreless inning. Anthony Varvaro had a rough day. He was on the mound during the seventh inning and gave up five runs on seven hits. That will hurt his chances of making the team in the bullpen.
The Braves are now 6-7 in spring play. They will have their first split-squad day of spring training tomorrow. Half of the team will play the Houston Astros and the other half will play the Toronto Blue Jays. Kris Medlen will start for the Braves against the Blue Jays and Sean Gilmartin will make the start against Houston. Both games are at 1:05 p.m.
