The Braves' offense had twelve hits on the day while getting their four runs. Justin Upton and Chris Johnson both hit their second home runs of the spring. Upton's came in the first inning while Johnson's came in the seventh. They were both solo shots. Johnson had a great day going three for three at the plate while playing first base. Tyler Pastornicky and Joe Leonard both drove in the other runs for the Braves on singles. Pastornicky had two hits in the game and so did Blake DeWitt as he had a double, a single and scored a run. Evan Gattis, Joey Terdoslavich, Juan Francisco and catcher Matt Pagnozzi each added a single for Atlanta.
Tim Hudson made his fourth start of the spring, he got into a lot of jams, but was able to pitch out of most of them. The Mets' Marlon Byrd knocked in two runs off Hudson, one with a single and the other with a sacrifice fly. Overall, Hudson pitched four innings and gave up two runs on six hits while striking out two. Luis Avilan and David Carpenter each pitched a scoreless inning and struck out two batters. Carpenter picked up the victory, he is now 1-0 on the spring. Prospect Alex Wood pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his first save of the spring.
The Braves are now 5-6 in spring training. They will take the field again tomorrow against the New York Yankees at 7:05 p.m. Paul Maholm is scheduled to make his third start of the spring.
