Braves Top Yankees

The Atlanta Braves stole the show on a day when all eyes were on the Yankees' Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera. They both played in their first spring games and for the first time since returning from major injuries.
The Braves totaled five hits while scoring their 2 runs in the 2-1 victory. Tyler Pastornicky had another good day gathering two hits, including a triple and scoring on a Dan Uggla single. Jordan Schafer also had a double and scored on Jordan Parraz's sacrifice fly for the winning run in the top of the ninth inning.
The pitchers had a great day for the Braves. Mike Minor started the game and pitched four innings, giving up no runs on three hits. Reliever Anthony Varvaro had a much better outing than the day before, he pitched a perfect inning and picked up the victory, he is 1-0 on the spring. Luis Avilan and Dusty Hughes also pitched a scoreless inning each. Prospect Alex Wood pitched the final two innings and gave up an unearned run on three hits. He earned his second save of the spring.
The Braves are now 8-8 on the spring. Their next game will be against the Miami Marlins. Tim Hudson will make the start for the Braves in the 1:05 p.m. match up.
