The Braves' offense got eleven hits in the game but could only push across two runs. Dan Uggla drove in one of the runs with an RBI single and Joe Leonard drove in the other with an RBI double. B.J. Upton had a good day with three hits, all singles. Jason Heyward had two hits for the Braves, that helped him to break out of a slump where he was hitless in his last fourteen at-bats. Ernesto Mejia and Chris Johnson also had a hit for the Braves.
The Braves' pitchers didn't have very good days. Tim Hudson made the start and gave up six runs on nine hits, including a three-run home run in the first inning. He suffered the loss and is now 1-1 on the spring. Jonny Venters pitched an inning and gave up two unearned runs on three hits. The runs scored because of a Chris Johnson' error. Prospect Cory Rasmus also had a rough day, he gave up a two-run homer in his one inning of work. Fellow prospect J.R. Graham had the best day of all the Braves' pitchers, he pitched two scoreless innings, giving up two hits and striking out two batters.
The Braves are now 8-9 on the spring. They will face the Washington Nationals tomorrow at 1:05 p.m. and Paul Maholm will make the start for the Braves.
Tim Hudson started for the Braves on Sunday but struggled, giving up six runs on nine hits in only five innings.
