The Atlanta Braves made a minor trade on Wednesday morning to shore up their bullpen depth. They sent minor league pitcher Chris Jones to the Baltimore Orioles for right-handed reliever Luis Ayala.
Ayala, 35, has been around for awhile and mainly has been known for his time in the big leagues with the Washington Nationals, New York Yankees and the Orioles. Two years ago, Ayala had a 2.09 ERA in 52 games for the Yankees and last year he was 5-5 with a 2.64 ERA and a save in 66 games for the Orioles. Ayala helps soften the blow the Braves have had with Jonny Venters being out for the first two months of the year. He brings experience and a veteran arm to help the bullpen in tough situations. Ayala's addition means that Cristhian Martinez or Anthony Varvaro could lose their spot in Atlanta's bullpen.
