Braves Sweep Cubs

The Atlanta Braves completed a three-game sweep of the Chicago Cubs on Sunday afternoon at Turner Field. Tim Hudson and Dan Uggla led the team in the 5-1 victory.
The Braves' offense had six hits while scoring their five runs. Ramiro Pena led the Braves with two hits, including a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth that put the Braves ahead for good. Hudson also got a hit in the sixth, a single that drove in the Braves' fourth run of the game. Then Uggla put the finishing touches on the game with a solo homer in the eighth inning, it was his second of the year. B.J. Upton and Juan Francisco each added a hit for the Braves. Justin Upton, who had five homers in the Braves' first five games, struck out in all four of his plate appearances in the game.
After giving up a run in the first inning, Hudson was terrific for the rest of the game. He pitched six and two-thirds innings and gave up the run on three hits and struck out seven Cubs' batters. Luis Avilan and Jordan Walden each had scoreless outings. Walden was especially good in the ninth inning, he came in throwing strikes and ended up striking out the side.
The Braves are now 5-1 on the year and will begin a three-game series with the Miami Marlins tomorrow night in Miami at 7:10 p.m. Paul Maholm (1-0) will start for the Braves and Kevin Slowey (0-1) will start for Miami. Also in other news, the Braves placed Freddie Freeman on the disabled list due to a strained oblique and recalled Blake DeWitt from Triple-A Gwinnett to take his spot on the roster.
