Francisco, Gattis Power Braves to Sweep

Juan Francisco and Evan Gattis powered the Braves' offense on Wednesday night and they helped the Braves complete a three-game sweep of the Miami Marlins by winning the last game 8-0.
The Braves' offense had thirteen hits while scoring eight runs. Jordan Schafer, who was playing for the slumping B.J. Upton, had four hits to lead the Braves. That included a double and he also scored two runs. Juan Francisco had three hits, including a two-run homer in the fifth inning that hit off the second deck, it was his first of the year. Evan Gattis had two hits, which included his big three-run homer that gave the Braves a 3-0 lead. It was the second night in a row that Gattis has hit a home run and it was his third overall on the year. Chris Johnson had two hits for the Braves and drove in a run. Andrelton Simmons had a hit and drove in two runs and Dan Uggla had a hit and scored two runs.
Mike Minor had an effective start for the Braves. He pitched five and two-thirds innings and gave up five hits and struck out four. He was finally taken out of the game because of a high pitch count in the sixth. He was able to get the victory though and is 2-0 on the year. Cory Gearrin pitched an inning and a third and struck out two batters, Anthony Varvaro pitched the last two innings and only gave up two hits.
The Braves are now 8-1 and will enjoy a day off on Thursday before going to Washington D.C. and beginning a three-game series with the Nationals on Friday. The Nationals are 6-2 and will send Ross Detwiler (0-0) to the mound to face the Braves' Julio Teheran (0-0).
