Lee Stymies Braves' Bats

The Braves' bats had exploded for sixteen runs in the first two games against the Phillies. On Thursday night it was a different story though and the Phillies beat the Braves, 2-0.
The Braves offense only managed two hits in the loss. Dan Uggla had a single in the second inning and Justin Upton singled in the fourth inning as the Phillies' Cliff Lee pitched eight masterful innings and didn't allow the Braves to get a runner to second base or further all night. The Braves' bats also struck out ten more times, B.J. Upton struck out two more times and hasn't gotten a hit yet as a Brave.
Kris Medlen made the start for the Braves and struggled with command at the beginning of the game. He ended up pitching five innings and giving up two runs, both in the second inning, on six hits and he struck out three batters. He suffered the loss and is 0-1 on the year. Cory Gearrin and Jordan Walden both pitched a perfect inning each. Anthony Varvaro pitched a perfect eighth and ninth inning for the second night in a row.
The Braves are now 2-1 on the year and will begin a three-game home series against the Chicago Cubs on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. Mike Minor will make his first start of the season against Scott Feldman of the Cubs.
