The Braves had ten hits, including three home runs, in the victory. Gattis had the big blow with a grand slam in the fourth inning. It was his tenth home run of the year and he also has 27 RBI's now. Ramiro Pena had two hits on the day, including a solo homer in the third inning, he now has two on the year. B.J. Upton hit the Braves' third homer, a solo shot which was his fourth of the year. Chris Johnson and Jason Heyward each added two hits and an RBI for the Braves. Jordan Schafer and Dan Uggla had the Braves' other two hits in the game.
Paul Maholm was very effective for the Braves. He pitched seven and a third innings and gave up an unearned run on seven hits. He also struck out four batters and picked up the victory, he is now 6-4 on the year. Cory Rasmus made his Major League debut and pitched the final inning and two-thirds. He did well and struck out three batters but he did give up two homers to the Twins in the ninth inning.
The Braves are now 28-18. They will enjoy an off-day on Thursday before flying to New York to take on the Mets on Friday at 7:10 p.m. Kris Medlen (1-5) will start the game for the Braves against Jeremy Hefner (0-5) of the Mets.
Evan Gattis again had a big day as he hit a grand slam in the fourth inning helping the Braves beat the Minnesota Twins 8-3 on Wednesday afternoon.
