McCann Leads Braves to Victory

Brian McCann had a big day for the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday afternoon and led the Braves to a 7-6 victory in ten innings.
The Braves tallied twelve hits in the victory. McCann had the biggest day of all hitting two solo home runs, including the game-winner in the tenth inning, he now had six on the year. Evan Gattis hit his twelfth homer on the year in the sixth inning and one of Jordan Schafer's two hits was his second home run of the season. Freddie Freeman and Andrelton Simmons led the Braves with two hits in the game, Freeman also added an RBI on his single in the first inning. Juan Francisco was the only other Brave to record a hit in the game.
Paul Maholm didn't have his best stuff in the game, luckily he got a no decision. He pitched six innings and gave up five runs on ten hits, including a solo homer to Jose Bautista. Anthony Varvaro recorded only one out in the seventh while giving up two hits and a run so Fredi Gonzalez then turned to Luis Avilan who pitched an inning and two-thirds and didn't give up a hit. Cory Gearrin pitched a perfect ninth inning and picked up the win, he is now 2-1 on the year. Craig Kimbrel struck out a batter in the tenth to pick up his sixteenth save of the season.
The Braves are now 31-20 on the year. They will continue their series with the Blue Jays tomorrow night at 7:10 p.m. as the series shifts to Turner Field. Kris Medlen (1-5) will be looking to pick up a victory as he takes on Esmil Rogers (1-2) for Toronto.
