The Braves had fifteen hits in the game but struggled to score until the eighth inning. B.J. Upton led the Braves with four hits during the game. His brother Justin also had a good night with three hits, including his 21st home run of the year and a two-run double in the eighth that helped put the Braves ahead for good. Jason Heyward and Freddie Freeman each added two hits and an RBI, Heyward also scored two runs. Chris Johnson and Andrelton Simmons each added two hits in the victory, Kris Medlen also had an RBI with a sacrifice fly.
Medlen also had a decent night on the mound as he picked up his third straight victory and improved his record to 9-10 on the year. He pitched seven innings and struck out six batters while giving up three runs on three hits, including a homer to Jayson Werth. David Carpenter pitched a scoreless seventh and struck out a batter. Craig Kimbrel labored in the ninth, he threw over 35 pitches, but he got out of a bases loaded jam and recorded his 36th save of the season.
The Braves are now 70-45 on the year. They will have a much needed off day on Thursday before welcoming the Miami Marlins to Turner Field on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. for the first game of a three-game series. Brandon Beachy (0-0) looks for his first victory of the year as he takes on Jacob Turner (3-3) of the Marlins.
