The Braves smashed out twelve hits in the victory. Chris Johnson continued his hot streak by leading the team with three hits and he also scored three runs. Jason Heyward hit a solo homer in the third inning for his ninth of the year, he had two hits and two RBI's in the game. Andrelton Simmons also had two hits and he drove in a run with a single in the second inning. Joey Terdoslavich had a pinch-hit single that drove in the eventual winning run in the bottom of the sixth, it was his first Major League RBI. Justin Upton, Freddie Freeman, Evan Gattis and Reed Johnson all had a hit in the victory too.
Kris Medlen wasn't at his best, but he pitched good enough to help the Braves win. He went six innings and gave up two runs on eight hits. He also struck out four batters as he improved his record to 7-10 on the year. Luis Avilan struck out two batters in a perfect seventh inning, Jordan Walden also had a perfect inning in the eighth. Craig Kimbrel came in and closed it out in the ninth for his 31st save of the season.
The Braves are now 60-45 on the year. They will welcome the Colorado Rockies to town for a four-game series starting tomorrow night at 7:10 p.m. Brandon Beachy (0-0) will make his return from Tommy John surgery, which caused him to miss over a year while he recovered from the injury. Jorge De La Rosa (10-5) will make the start for the Rockies.
Joey Terdoslavich's RBI single in the sixth inning put the Braves ahead for good in their 5-2 victory over the Cardinals on Sunday night.
