Atlanta had twelve hits in the game. Jason Heyward had a big day, gathering four hits, driving in a run and scoring two runs. Evan Gattis also showed some life at the plate by having three hits, including two doubles, and driving in a run. Freddie Freeman had two hits, including a three-run home run that put the Braves up 4-3 at the time, it was his fourteenth homer of the season. Chris Johnson had a hit and two RBI's, Jordan Schafer and Mike Minor had a hit apiece and Dan Uggla and B.J. Upton drove in a run with separate sacrifice fly's. B.J. came into the game for his brother Justin after he was hurt running down the first base line, apparently he was crapping up from dehydration.
Minor didn't have his best day on the mound but he ended up getting the victory and improving his record to 12-5 on the year. He pitched seven innings and gave up four runs on six hits and struck out six batters. Luis Avilan pitched a perfect eighth inning and struck out a batter and then Anthony Varvaro came in and pitched a perfect ninth to finish the game for Atlanta.
The Braves are now 72-46 on the season. They will welcome the Philadelphia Phillies to town for a three-game series starting tomorrow night at 7:10 p.m. Julio Teheran (9-5) will start the first game against Cole Hamels (4-13) of the Phillies. Also, the Braves announced they activated Gerald Laird from the disabled list before the game on Sunday and that they sent Todd Cunningham back to Triple-A Gwinnett to create a spot on the roster for Laird.
