Atlanta had nine hits in the game, but could only score two runs in the pitching duel. Simmons had the big hit, a double with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth that drove in the only two runs of the game. It was the second of two hits for Simmons on the day. Brian McCann and Chris Johnson also added two hits with Simmons to lead the team. Justin Upton, Evan Gattis and Joey Terdoslavich each added a hit apiece for Atlanta.
Julio Teheran pitched a terrific game but unfortunately he didn't get the win. He pitched seven innings and gave up two hits while striking out six batters. Luis Avilan struck out a man in the eighth inning, he also earned the victory and is now 3-0 on the year. Craig Kimbrel also struck out a batter in his perfect ninth inning which earned him his 30th save of the season.
The Braves are now 59-45 after the victory and they will finish their series with the Cardinals tomorrow night at 8:00 as the teams will be featured on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball. Kris Medlen (6-10) will take the mound under the spotlight and face Shelby Miller (10-6) for the Cards.
