Upton Helps Braves Win

The Braves continued their winning ways on Monday night and beat the Nationals 3-2 for the eleventh straight victory.
Atlanta had eight hits in the win. Justin Upton had three hits on the night, including the eventual game-winning homer in the top of the eighth. The home run was his 20th of the year and he also scored two runs in the game. Freddie Freeman also had three hits in the game and drove in two runs on separate singles. Jason Heyward had a hit and scored a run, B.J. Upton also had a hit on the night.
Mike Minor started the game and labored throughout his outing. He pitched six innings and gave up two runs on eight hits while striking out three men. David Carpenter came in after Minor allowed a lead-off double in the seventh and he ended up pitching an inning and two-thirds. He struck out two batters over that span and earned the victory and is now 3-0 on the year. Luis Avilan got the final out of the eighth inning with one pitch. Jordan Walden came in to pitch the ninth inning and he allowed a man to get to third but then got the final two outs to pick up his first save of the year.
Atlanta is now 68-45 on the season and they will play the Nationals again tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. Julio Teheran (8-5) will take the mound for the Braves and face-off against the Nationals' Gio Gonzalez (7-4).
