Win Streak Ends to Marlins

The Atlanta Braves lost on Saturday night 1-0 to the lowly Miami Marlins which ended their fourteen game winning streak.
The Braves had only three hits in the game as their potent offense was shut down by one of the worst teams in baseball. Freddie Freeman, Evan Gattis and Andrelton Simmons had the three hits for Atlanta. The Braves struck out ten times as a team in the game, Dan Uggla, B.J. Upton and Alex Wood each whiffed two times.
Wood had a great start blown by the offense that couldn't support him at all. He pitched six innings and gave up no runs on two hits while striking out seven. David Carpenter and Luis Avilan combined to pitch the seventh and eighth innings, Carpenter had three strikeouts in an inning and a third. Jordan Walden came in to pitch the ninth and he struggled and gave up the only run of the game on a wild pitch after giving up a triple. To make matters worse, he left the game after being hit on his pitching hand on a line drive. He also suffered the loss, his record dropped to 4-2, and he caused the Braves' fourteen game win streak to end, the longest streak in franchise history since 2000. Anthony Varvaro replaced Walden to record the final out in the ninth.
The Braves drop to 71-46 on the year and they will finish their series with the Marlins tomorrow at 1:35 p.m. Mike Minor (11-5) will try to start a new win streak for the Braves as Henderson Alvarez (2-1) will take the hill for Miami. Also, the Braves announced they have activated Jordan Schafer from the disabled list and they sent Jose Constanza back to Triple-A Gwinnett to make room for Schafer.
