The Braves had five hits to go with the five runs, all of that came in the fourth inning. Evan Gattis had a big two-run double to get the Braves on the board. Chris Johnson and Elliot Johnson also had a hit and drove in a run apiece. Justin Upton and Freddie Freeman had the other two hits in the victory.
Kris Medlen did well and he earned the victory to move to 13-12 on the year and moved his record above .500 for the first time all season. He pitched six and a third innings and gave up two runs on six hits while striking out six batters. Luis Avilan relieved Medlen in the sixth and got two big strikeouts to get out of the jam. Luis Ayala pitched a scoreless eighth inning and Craig Kimbrel came in and struck out two in a perfect ninth for his 45th save of the season.
The Braves are now 86-57 on the year and they will continue their series with the Marlins tomorrow night at 7:10 p.m. Julio Teheran (11-7) will return to the mound and face Tom Koehler (3-9) of the Marlins. Also, the Braves called up one of their top prospects, Christian Bethancourt, from Double-A Mississippi to get some experience in the big leagues. Bethancourt was an All-Star in Double-A this year.
