Bullpen Loses Game to Cubs

The Braves had a chance to clinch the division against the Cubs, but instead they will have to wait another day as Chicago won 3-1 on Saturday.
The Braves managed only five hits in the game as the Cubs out-hit them again. Chris Johnson had two hits, while Justin Upton, Freddie Freeman and Evan Gattis each had a hit in the loss. The only run of the game for the Braves scored when Gattis got his hit and an error was committed by the Cubs' Nate Schierholtz. The Braves struck out ten times as a team, including two times apiece by Gerald Laird, Dan Uggla and B.J. Upton.
Kris Medlen started the game and ended up not factoring into the decision even after having a great performance. He pitched seven and a third innings and gave up a run on six hits while striking out six. Scott Downs was the man who lost the game for the bullpen today by giving up two runs on two hits, he suffered the loss and is now 4-4 on the year. David Carpenter also pitched two-thirds of an inning and gave up a hit that scored one of Downs' runs.
The Braves are now 91-63 on the season and they will play the Cubs for the final time tomorrow at 2:20 p.m. Julio Teheran (12-8) will take his shot at trying to help the Braves clinch while Edwin Jackson (8-16) will start for the Cubs.
