The Braves had eleven hits in the game. Upton and Chris Johnson had four hits apiece to lead the team. Upton had a home run, his ninth of the season, and three RBI's, including the game-winning hit in the eleventh. Brian McCann had a hit and an RBI and Freddie Freeman drove in the other run with a sacrifice fly to complete the Braves' scoring. Jordan Schafer and Mike Minor added the other hits for the Braves in the victory.
Minor pitched decently against Miami but got a no-decision. He pitched seven innings and gave up four runs on five hits, including homers to Justin Ruggiano and Giancarlo Stanton. David Carpenter pitched a perfect eighth, Craig Kimbrel pitched a perfect ninth and Luis Avilan completed a scoreless tenth inning. Luis Ayala walked two in the eleventh but was able to get out of the inning without giving up a run and he earned the victory and is 2-1 on the year.
Atlanta is now 83-52 on the year and they will complete their three-game series with the Marlins tomorrow at 5 p.m. Alex Wood (3-2) will take the mound in the finale against Nathan Eovaldi (2-5) of the Marlins.
