Minor Leads Braves Over Cards

Mike Minor came up big Friday night and the Braves got revenge from last year's Wild Card Playoff Game by beating the Cardinals 4-1.
The Braves gathered eight hits in the game. Chris Johnson led the Braves with two hits and drove in a run. Jason Heyward hit a solo home run in the fifth inning for his eighth homer of the year. Minor also helped his cause with an RBI single to put the Braves ahead. Reed Johnson, Evan Gattis, Brian McCann and Dan Uggla all added a hit apiece, McCann and Uggla both scored a run.
Minor came through with a great start for a Braves rotation that has struggled lately and suffered a few injuries. He pitched seven innings and gave up a run on four hits, the only run was a Yadier Molina homer for St. Louis. Minor also recorded five strikeouts as he improved his record to 10-5 on the year. Jordan Walden pitched a perfect eighth inning and then Craig Kimbrel came on in the ninth and struck out two batters while recording his 29th save of the season.
The Braves are now 58-45 on the year and they will continue their series tomorrow with St. Louis at 4:05 p.m. Julio Teheran (7-5) will take the mound for Atlanta against Joe Kelly (1-3) for the Cardinals.
